The stairs of hell await you... No kidding. To get to the top of the very small Bromo Volcano you have to climb up 300 stairs. It is a bit smokey, the view isn't that impressive, but if you want to see the guts of a volcano here is the place !

You can't possibly head to East Java without watching at least one volcano-sunrise. So, you go, you take your picture and it's beautiful. Seems like a union with nature... Whatever, you meet hundreds of tourists - you even recognize twenty-seven of them from Yogya.

When going down into the big crater, keep walking towards the sign. It will tell you the way to Cemoro Lawang (you just came from that) and the viewpoint, 10 km away. There are 2 rows of poles. Go down the middle and start walking. Shine your light and try to find hoof prints in the sand. You'll pass a temple on your right. Pass it. The path will go up a bit. You'll find a staircase. Just 253 Steps to go!
Gunung Bromo was one of the crowded places we travelled to. We saw the beautiful sunrise on from viewpoint. After that we went by car to the crater and the smell of sulphur is in the air. I recommend to book the jeep-option right in the travel agency for a comfortable experience you wont regret.
