One of my favourite city of the trip! Heaven for backpackers! Luang Prabang is not easily reached by car/bus and that is why there are not too many tourists. We spent a week there and people had to drag me to the bus or I would still be there… no need to say more.
Luang Prabang is a UNESCO World Heritage City located in north central Laos, It's a really charming city with a rich cultural, historical and natural life. This former capital of Laos is still considered as the spiritual center of the country. You will discover traditional Lao wooden houses, amazing Buddhist temples and a meld of French heritage.

With plenty of good hiking opportunities, very good food in town and it's great nightmarket Luang Prabang was my culturell highlight in Laos!
Louangphrabang or Luang Prabang is the former capital of the Kingdom of Laos. It is named as UNESCO World Heritage City for its rich culture and extensive tradition preservation. Luang Prabang is favoured by tourists but not party goer place. It is a peaceful town with many Buddhist temples and monateries around. Many are located at the historic district on the peninsular formed from the emerging of Nam Khan river to Mekong river. Every morning, hundreds of monks walk along the Sakkaline Street collecting alms, Tak Bat. Sakkaline Street is converted into night market at dusk. It offers great variety of local crafts. Walk or cycle around and you will discover more interesting temple not listed in your guidebook and visit the nearby Pak Ou Cave and Kuang Si Waterfall. Both are breath taking sites. Tak Bat - Best to observe the ceremony from across the street. Do not participate if unsure of the practise. Do not block the procession way. Do not turn on flash when photographing.
