About Jakarta

Located on the northwestern coast of Java island, Jakarta is the capital and largest city in Indonesia. It is also the country’s political, economical and cultural centre, and the seat of the ASEAN secretariat. Apart from the old area of the city, Jakarta is not a very touristic destination. Nevertheless, the city owns many historical places, museums, and parks.

Well, Jakarta is part of those cities who grew too big too fast. It smells bad, it is crowded, and architects were obviously not too concerned about the overall esthesticall aspect of their buildings. Personnaly, I felt ill at ease in Jakarta, I had only one wish. It was to flee this city as fast as possible.

Still the same. Not much to do. We didn't have the faith (after our disappointing first day in Jakarta) to spend our time there looking for cultural things to do. Instead we went to mengga Dua Theatre and watched 2 movies before heading to the airport and going back home.

Leave. Far away.

I didn't stay here really. Just for one night, because I couldn't fly to Yogyakarta right away after I flew from Padang to Jakarta. I took a Damri bus to the backpackers area near Jalan Jaksa, stayed overnight and left the next day. I was planning on getting up early to see a few sights, but I could't get out of bed...

Last stop on our way back home. Enjoy the sunset with a cold beer up on a rooftop.
Jakarta is the country's economic, cultural and political centre. It is the most populous city in Indonesia and in Southeast Asia, and is the tenth-largest city in the world. Jakarta is served by the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport** and Tanjung Priok Harbour; it is connected by several intercity and commuter railways, and served by several bus lines running on reserved busway. Jakarta is primarily a city of government and business. It is seldom viewed as a centre for tourism other than the old part of the city which is a popular tourist destination. However the Jakarta authority saw the opportunity to develop the city's reputation as a service and tourism city. There are many new tourism infrastructures, entertainment centers, and international-class hotels and restaurants being built in Jakarta. Jakarta also possesses many historical places and cultural heritage.
