Battambang is Cambodia's second largest city, with a nice atmosphere. it is good to rent a bike a ride across the countryside, catch the bamboo train and visit Phnom Sampov.

Battambang is a nice city to stop for a day, or just an afternoon. The places to visit are in the surounding of Battambang, therefore it is a good idea to rent a bike. The tourists usually go for a ride on the "bamboo train" (not sure it is worth the trip), then go to see the killing caves and then stop at sunset to watch the thousands (millions?)of bats going out of the cave. Note : the view on the top of the hill of the bats and killing caves, is beautiful. The problem beeing you can't be both watching the bats going out the caves and see the view up the hill exactly at sunset. What you might do is rent a motor bike, go for a visit of the killing caves, go uphill to see the temple and the view at sunset, and then go downhill fast enough to see the last bats coming out.
