Some travel guides tell you that there are things to see in Irkutsk... well it's true that if you are into church architecture, you might want to make a stop there. In my opinion there is nothing to see in Irkutsk... but you will have to stop there in order to take a bus to the great Baikal Lake (which is really worth it). When you arrive at the train station, it will be most likely be 6 am and I suggest that you take the tram that pass right in front of the train station. It will take you directly to the bus station where you should not have to wait too long for the first bus to Listvyanka.
