About Berastagi

The city is neither good or bad looking but you will feel quite comfortable walking around as you will have just left the busy and polluted Medan! Most backpackers come to Berastagi to climb the volcanoes that are surrounding the city, and to do some treks in the countryside. Again most people do not speak English... but I guess that by now you should be accustomed to it!

There are fruits and vegetables everywhere in enormous quantities! They are as good as it gets and it would be a shame not to use the opportunity to take some vitamins before going trekking

It will take you about 3 hours to reach the summit of the volcano. The first part of the walk is through a forest and then you will be able to enjoy a cool view as you walk up the mountain. Once you reach the top, you have the option to walk back down on the other side of the volcano but it will add a few hours to the trek (we got a bit lost and it took us ages to come back to the guesthouse)
