Step 47/48: Cambodia - Banlung

About Banlung

Banung itself has no interest. It is the final destination of a tiring bus ride that took you through across the country. You'll find good food alright. Rent a bike, drive around, there are waterfalls, a very very scenic crater lake, villages... and some trek trails in the North. The roads are good, it's easy.

  • The whole gem argument is not worth it.

Things to see

Yaklom Crater Lake 10 /10

User's opinion
One of the nicest spot in the area. It doesn't look like it's a crater lake (yeah, volcano crater...). But it's virtually perfectly circular. Of course you can walk around (beware the snakes). You can swim and eat and drink beer and all. An advice is to avoid the place on Sundays. It's OK to see what Cambodians do for fun on the week-end, but the music is too loud and the natural beauty is a bit spoilt.
Village Volleyball 8 /10

Your bike can take you through countless villages when you can rest with a beer, watching the local volleyball match.

But be careful with their quality... Mine ended up being pulled by my friend's, using a Krama!!! They're OK with refunds and all, so that's good. Take it easy!

It's a famous spot for "local expats" and tourists, with very good food, helpful staff and that organises tours, motorbike rents and everything.
