About Yangshuo

An idyllic town in the middle of the Karst Mountains. Even though it has become pretty touristic, you still get the ambiance of an old town. West street is the main shop street, where you'll find everything you need and want. And even though they are used to tourists here, you'll feel like a celebrity; Chinese clicking away with their cameras trying to get a paparazzi picture of a blonde girl having lunch... The surroundings are just amazing. It's pretty small and before you know it you're out of town and smack down in the middle of old idyllic China. At nighttime they light up some of the mountains. Not a bad sight, although a bit too touristic.

Tips & Tricks

  • Get a bicycle, €2, and just cycle around. There are a few routes you can take.
  • You don't always have to take the 'obligatory' pond. Sometimes a dam will do...

User's opinion
The best way to see the Karst Mountains is by bike. The views are great. When you're out the city it's quiet and peaceful. There are a few things you can see; Moon Hill, which is just a hole in a mountain and Water Cave (€7), in which you can swim and enjoy a mud bath. In the summer, maybe. But not in the wintertime! The water wasn't deep enough and the mud was freezing! The cave itself is huge and nice!

A street running over the length of the city full of little shops. Here you can find anything you want; tons of souvenirs (bargain hard!), craft stores where they sell original scroll paintings or chopsticks (of course a must buy), nice little restaurants and hostels/hotels.

Didn't stay here, but enjoyed the rooftop bar every night! Beerpong/shotpong is a great game to play. Every night there is some sort of happy hour going on and Jane is just crazy!

Not the best place, but it will do. The beds were hard and no western toilet. But at least you had you own bathroom (6-bed dorm ensuite).

Good breakfast here! Western...yes... And good internet connection (pc and wifi). Place is open until midnight and at nighttime it's a club.
