Step 10/60: Vietnam - Mui Ne

About Mui Ne

Mui Ne is a small town, pretty much consisting of one 10 kilometer long street, running along the beach. Beware that only half of this beach has sand, the other half is made out of concrete. You don't want to be there! It's said that this town is great for water-sports, but I found that to be an overstatement. It is nice, and yes, there are water-sports you can practice... but 6 months out of the year that will be kiteboarding and the other 6 months it will be surfing. So, no snorkeling or paddling about! Even just a quick jump into the sea can be dangerous with all the kiteboarders racing over the water. Also, it's high season all year round, so don't believe it when a site says '$6 for low season and $12 for high season'...there is no low season! And no huts directly on the beach either. It's also pretty tough getting around, since it's such a long street...with no real supermarket to be found by the way. Sunsets can be pretty though. Don't stay here too long, unless it's your scene.

Sandy... And very, very hot! I wore flip-flops, which was a bad idea. This might be a nice place to hang if you're with other people and have a sand board or something.
Kiteboarding 7 /10

User's opinion
$75 per hour! Very expensive and it takes at least 4 hours before you're able to stand on a board. Hard to learn with big waves and many other kiteboarders as well (so if you can, go to the Philippines. That's where I ended up learning it)! But it sure is fun to look at, especially when they go flying!

The sunsets are nice here! And, if you want to jump in the water... now is a save time to do it. No more kiteboarders. There can be sand fleas though...

User's opinion:

The internet (travelfish.org) stated it was $8. Once there they charged $15: high season. Apparently it's always high season! What a rip-off! Room was really clean and nice with fan, own bathroom.
