About Madaba

Madaba is one of the main crossroads of Jordan between the desert highway, the Kings road, the route to Amman and the one to the red sea. There is no specific reason to sleep there or in Amman except if you rent a car. We experienced driving in Amman and it is particularly awful and dangerous. According that you are a foreigner, if you have any accident you will be designated as responsible (of course). Thus, preferring let your car in Madaba could be a good idea or at least a safer one. Finally, Madaba known as the "City of Mosaïcs" has with no doubt an historical interest. The whole city can be visited in 4 hours or so. Coming from Karak, after Madaba we continued our route to the Dead Sea.

Nebo Mount and Dead Sea photo by Philippe Alran

User's opinion
From where Moses contemplated The Promise Land and where he died at 120. As if you were in a time machine, you will turn back the clock and see in the distance, the Dead Sea, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Ramalah and the Jordan River. Enter the church and listen to the Hebraic and Arabic songs. At 30min, the Dead Sea. Quite expensive, c.40JD/d/p for the clean beaches of the Hilton, 10JD otherwise.
