Every trip (well, most of them) starts with an airplane. This one is no exception to the rule. After 30 hours and 18 hours stop in Bahrain with the awfull company Gulf Air we finally arrived in Kathmandu. It was night so we couldn't see a lot but it was enought to realize something that would be of the utmost important : The roads. We arrived tired of our trip in a very noisy but welcoming hostel which remained our Kathmandu home. After a quick talk with the guys we started negociating an everest base camp Trek. The prices were quite impressive ($900+ per person for 11 days and a guide). We slept on it. We spent a day visiting the city, just walking in the streets of Thamel (the touristy side of KTM) and trying not to be ran over by a crazy honking driver. The feeling was great, but you must be ready for some intensive harassment from the street sellers. Don't worry though, nothing compared to other asian countries.

Back to Kathmandu after a long ride back. We planned our trip so we could take the plane to Lukla (the first city for the everest base camp trek) on the next morning. A last stop to refill before the start of a great adventure. You should consider using this time to take dry meat, various kinds of cookies and cakes with you. I did it and taking biscuits and tea instead of a breakfast saved me a good 50€ during the trek The best spending I did during the entire trip. The sugar will also be appreciable during the hard climbs. Trust me, this is a good deal. You can also buy altitude sickness pills here. We didn't try those so I couldn't tell if it is usefull at all! One last thing, don't forget to shower very good here, it will not be very easy later on.
