The Tribe's opinion

If you want to go to Dazhai to see the stunning rice terraces, you will have to make a stop in Guilin. Not a bad place to hang out for a little while: there are a few parks, people swim in the Li river, and there are a bunch of streets market in which you can lose yourself.

There is not much to say about Guilin. To me it was more the starting point to Yangshuo. I found it to be quite a gray city even though it's right on the border of the Karst Mountains. The streets are busy, people selling food everywhere. It's different if you've just come from Hong Kong. You do feel that you're in real China now.
